Dr. Claiborne was born in Landstuhl, West Germany while his parents were stationed at Ramstein AFB. Dr. Claiborne graduated from Tabb High School in Yorktown, Virginia in 1993 and received his undergraduate degree from Salisbury State University in 1997.
After earning his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 2003, Dr. Claiborne completed a two-year general practice residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. During this time, he received extensive training and supervision in all aspects of dental implant treatment.
Dr. Emma A. Schmidt is originally from Pittsburgh, PA but has traveled through a few states on her journey here to Virginia. She completed her undergraduate degree at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia followed by her dental degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Immediately after graduation, Dr. Schmidt pursued an optional 1-year General Practice Residency at the Ann Arbor veterans hospital where she learned to care for medically compromised patients in a dental setting. After completing her residency, she began her private practice career outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Dr. Maysa Nasir grew up in Doha, Qatar, where her passion for dentistry began. She pursued her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at CMH Lahore Medical and Dental College in Pakistan, honing her skills and knowledge in the field.
In 2020, Dr. Nasir moved to Arizona to further her education and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the UIC College of Dentistry. Dr. Nasir relocated to Virginia in June of 2025 to join the Forest Smiles team.

When I was 20 years old, I was in a serious car accident that knocked out many of my teeth. Over the years I’ve had different bridges, but I finally decided to get upper and lower dental implants so all of my teeth would match. From my very first consultation with Dr. Shane Claiborne at Forest Smiles, I knew I was in good hands. I gave Forest Smiles 5 stars because they absolutely deserved it. My implant journey went from being unsure, anxious, not knowing what to expect but knowing I needed to do something; to this was absolutely the right decision. From my initial consultation with Layva and Dr. Claiborne who explained the procedure (s) in layman's terms to seeing Kelsey or Anna for bi-weekly/monthly check-ups and/or x-rays during the healing process. My actual implants involved anesthesia to remove some natural teeth and to perform surgical procedures for the implants. This is where you absolutely need to trust the process. For me, the whole course of dental work took approximately 6 months. Most of that time was to ensure my jawbone and gums accepted the implants and had fully healed before I received my final permanent teeth. Please believe me when I say Dr. Claiborne is a Perfectionist!!! He will do what ever needs to be done to ensure your implants fit your face and bite pattern and they are aesthetically pleasing! I have gotten numerous complements on my beautiful smile! Moving forward and embracing my implant journey was absolutely the right decision for me.
